For air and water hose, the choice depends on whether there is oil in the line, on pressure fluctuations and on temperature. The five hoses Gates lists for this job, all in our range, differ according to these needs.
Below we note what each one is used for according to Gates. Call or message us on WhatsApp for sizes and prices.
Our Gates hoses for air and water lines
- Gates® Plant Master™ Hose: according to Gates, for air and water applications that require flexibility in every industry; working pressures 150–300 psi; not for use in oily environments.
- Gates® Lock-On Plus Air and Water Hose (LOLA): Gates: air, water, antifreeze, hot oils and petroleum-based hydraulic oils; low-pressure cleaning, pneumatic systems, return and low-pressure lines. Available in five colors.
- Gates® GP80 Plus: in the water and air (multipurpose) section of the Gates catalog; static conductive.
- Gates® MegaTech™ Steel Wire and Textile Braided Hydraulic Hose (R5): Gates: air compressor lines and pressurized hot oil return lines; -40 °C to +121 °C in air.
- Gates® Multi Master GMV Steel Wire Spiral Hydraulic Hose (R4): Gates: air, water, coolant, petroleum-based lubricating oils and refined fuels; 1:1 bend radius.
How to choose
When choosing an air and water hose:
- Oil in the line: Plant Master's tube and cover are ARPM Class C (limited oil resistance). If there is oil in the line, look at Lock-On Plus, GP80 Plus or Multi Master GMV.
- Pressure fluctuations: Gates does not recommend Lock-On Plus hose and couplings for applications with pressure fluctuations or for critical applications.
- Compressor line: MegaTech is the hose Gates recommends for air compressor lines.
- Temperature: Plant Master -40 °C to +93 °C in continuous service; Lock-On Plus -40 °C to +100 °C constant, +121 °C intermittent; MegaTech -40 °C to +121 °C in air.
- Fuel: Plant Master and Lock-On Plus are not for use with fuel. If fuel will also be conveyed, use Multi Master GMV (max. +49 °C in fuel); details in our fuel article.
Frequently asked questions
Which hose should I use on a compressor line?
In our range, the hose Gates recommends for air compressor lines is MegaTech; it operates from -40 °C to +121 °C in air.
What are colored hoses for?
Lock-On Plus is made in five colors; Gates offers this as color coding so that lines are easy to tell apart. Installation is easy with reusable Lock-On Plus couplings.
Can Plant Master be used on an oily air line?
No. Plant Master has ARPM Class C limited oil resistance; Gates says it should not be used in oily environments.
