Hydraulic hoses on agricultural machinery work outdoors, where sunlight (UV), ozone and abrasion constantly wear down the cover. Gates explicitly lists these three factors in its MXT-XTP brochure and names agriculture among the applications of its hoses.
All of the hoses below are in our range and are mentioned for agriculture in Gates sources. You can reach us by phone for sizes, pressures and prices.
Our Gates hoses for agricultural machinery
- Gates® MXG™ 5K-XTP with XtraTuff™ Plus Cover: Gates' MXG 5K brochure includes agricultural and off-road vehicle applications, and Gates' agriculture page also features this hose. The XtraTuff Plus cover offers ozone resistance exceeding 800 hours.
- Gates® MXG4K-XTP XtraTuff Xpiral Hydraulic Hose (280 bar): Gates lists forestry and agricultural applications in the MXG 4K datasheet; a flexible alternative to spiral hose in high-pressure lines.
- Gates® MXT™ Wire Braided Hose - SAE 100R16: Gates lists the MXT family for agricultural and forestry machinery.
- Gates® MXT-XTP XtraTuff Steel Wire Braided Hydraulic Hose (2SC): MXT with an XtraTuff cover, offering improved ozone and abrasion resistance.
- Gates® Pilot Wire and Textile Braided Hydraulic Hose: Gates: for hydraulic pilot control lines in tight spaces on agricultural equipment; minimal expansion under pressure gives good signal response.
- Gates® Plant Master™ Hose: According to Gates, suitable for air and water lines in agriculture and for light agricultural spraying applications such as dilute herbicide solutions.
How to choose
When choosing a hose for agricultural machinery:
- Line type: the MXG and MXT families for hydraulic pressure lines, Pilot hose for pilot control lines; Plant Master for air, water and light spraying.
- Pressure: MXG 5K-XTP is in the 350 bar class and MXG 4K-XTP in the 280 bar class; the working pressure of each size is given in the size chart on the product page. Plant Master working pressures range from 150 psi to 300 psi.
- Cover: On machines that work outdoors, check ozone and abrasion resistance: MXG and MXT-XTP hoses have an XtraTuff cover.
- Temperature: -40 °C to +121 °C for the MXG family; -40 °C to +100 °C for MXT and Pilot hose; Plant Master -40 °C to +93 °C in continuous service.
- Chemicals: Plant Master can handle mild chemicals such as diluted agricultural solutions; it is not used in oily environments.
Frequently asked questions
Which hose should I use for a crop spraying line?
In our range, the hose Gates considers suitable for light agricultural spraying is Plant Master: for mild chemicals such as dilute herbicide solutions. Working pressures range from 150 psi to 300 psi; it is not used in oily environments.
Which hose for a tractor's pilot control lines?
Gates recommends Pilot hose for hydraulic pilot control lines in tight spaces on agricultural equipment; because it expands very little under pressure, it gives good signal response.
Why does the cover matter on machines that work outdoors?
In its MXT-XTP brochure, Gates lists UV, ozone and abrasion as constant stresses on the hose. According to Gates, the XtraTuff Plus cover of MXG 5K-XTP offers 25 times the abrasion resistance and ozone resistance exceeding 800 hours.
